The Born to be Free Foundation is a Ghanaian based NGO that was founded in 2011 by Mohammed Issa, a writer, an entrepreneur and a humanitarian. The foundation was birthed out of his undying love for humanity and his avid interest in football. Vision Seed Academy Primary and Junior High School, located in Labadi jumped at the opportunity to partner with the foundation and admit all the boys.
In 2015, Born to be Free went through some structural changes and it refocused from football to Education. Our goal now is to provide boys from underprivileged backgrounds with education and self-help trainings. The foundation now takes care of thirty children, and supports them by paying for their school fees, school uniforms, books and weekly allowances.
After five years, the Foundation has successfully pulled some of these kids through Junior High School to Senior High School and to the University. Our long-term goal is to support more young people through education and trainings. In Mandela’s words, we believe that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Therefore, by empowering these boys we’re equipping a future generation which will take charge and become solutionists to Africa’s glaring problems.
